Norway Arrests Three Siblings in Connection with US Embassy Blast
(MENAFN) Norwegian authorities have taken three brothers into custody in connection with an explosion that occurred outside the US embassy in Oslo on Sunday.
Officials believe the blast was caused by an improvised device placed at the main entrance of the building. The explosion resulted in minor structural damage, and no one was reported injured.
The detained men, all in their twenties, are Norwegian nationals with familial ties to Iraq, as stated by reports. Among the suspects is one individual previously featured in images released by authorities, according to reports.
"They are suspected of a terror bombing," police attorney Christian Hatlo confirmed. None of the brothers had prior criminal records or were previously known to law enforcement.
Investigators are exploring multiple potential motives, including the possibility of involvement by a foreign state actor. "The most important thing is to get them [the suspects] questioned, then we'll see what happens," Hatlo added.
Authorities have reviewed images released earlier in the week and are also examining a video that had been uploaded to Google Maps around the time of the incident. The now-removed video showed Iran’s former supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was reportedly killed last month during joint US-Israeli strikes on Tehran, as stated by reports.
Police have deployed dogs, drones, and helicopters to assist with the investigation, which is being treated as a high-priority case. Emergency services were called to the embassy, located on Morgedalsvegen Street in the Ullern district of Oslo, around 02:00 local time (01:00 GMT) on Sunday.
Following the explosion, photos circulating on social media depicted shattered glass in the snow outside the consular section, cracks in a glass door, and scorch marks on the tiled floor near the entrance.
