Indigo CEO Pieter Elbers Resigns Following Major Outage Crisis
Dhaka: India's largest airline, IndiGo's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Pieter Elbers, resigned from his position following the airline's severe operational crisis in December 2025.
The budget carrier, on Tuesday, March 10, confirmed Elbers stepped down for personal reasons effective immediately.
Rahul Bhatia, Managing Director of InterGlobe Aviation, IndiGo's parent company, will oversee operations as interim CEO until a permanent replacement is appointed.
In the aftermath of the crisis, which saw the airline cancel 4,290 flights between December 1 and 9 due to a pilot shortage, IndiGo faced a significant financial setback.
The airline reported a 77.6% drop in its consolidated net profit, down to INR 549.8 crore for Q3FY26.
The company attributed the decline to two major factors: the implementation of new labor codes, which added an incremental cost of INR 969.3 crore, and the disruptions in December, which added INR 550 crore in additional expenses.
