UAE Businesses Continue Operations, With Worker's Safety Top Priority

Businesses in the UAE pressed ahead with operations on Monday, placing employee safety at the forefront as authorities reassured residents that daily life can continue with caution.

After a tense weekend in the country, many businesses returned to normal on Monday with reinforced safety measures and flexible arrangements where needed.

The National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) issued a statement on Monday that residents can carry out their usual activities while exercising caution and care and following instructions and news from official sources.

“Monitoring remains continuous, and all measures in place are focused on protecting the community and maintaining the highest levels of preparedness,” it said in the statement.

Return to normalcy

Online gift store Ferns N Petals is resuming its deliveries of fresh flowers and nicely decorated cakes. It said that while deliveries are continuing as normal, it is still making sure riders' safety is prioritised.

“The safety of our riders and on-ground teams is non-negotiable, and every decision we take begins there,” Rajesh Kumar, the CEO of FNP (GCC & SEA), told Khaleej Times.

He added that at the same time, FNP“remains committed to helping residents reach one another with messages of love, reassurance, and solidarity, because in uncertain times, connection becomes comfort.”

Yango Group, a tech company which has ride-hailing services and e-groceries, among others, is operating as normal. The safety of its customers and partner drivers remains the company's top priority, Islam Abdul Karim, the head of Yango Group Middle East, told Khaleej Times.

“UAE authorities have confirmed that the security situation remains stable and that safety systems are fully in place,” he said.“Official updates continue to be closely monitored, and all guidance issued by local authorities is being followed.”

Work flexibility

Meanwhile, Natasha Hatherall, founder and CEO of the PR agency TishTash Communications, has been working tirelessly with her team members over much of the weekend, but especially on Monday.

“Operationally, our team has been busier than usual, supporting clients both strategically and in an agile way during this time,” she said.

The CEO has allowed her entire team to work from home, based on recommendations from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

“It is an unprecedented time, and my priority as a leader, both internally and externally, is on our people and the 'human' side of all we do,” she said.

“Being at home now can offer a sense of comfort and stability, particularly for families balancing remote learning and for those navigating anxiety or heightened stress.”

On Monday and Tuesday, the UAE Capital Market Authority announced the closure of the main exchanges in the country. Airspace also remains closed until Tuesday, though authorities remain vigilant to any developments.
