07Community & LifestyleLocal lifeThe MASP's Latin American turn. On Friday, the MASP launches its 2026 programme under the banner Historias latino-americanas - the latest in the museum's thematic series that has previously addressed sexuality, feminism, the Afro-Atlantic, dance and ecology. The opening trio of Sandra Gamarra Heshiki, Claudia Alarcon with the Silat weavers, and La Chola Poblete sets the tone: Gamarra questions the neutrality of colonial representations, Alarcon reflects on memory through indigenous textiles, and La Chola Poblete mixes pop and pre-Columbian references. In April, Santiago Yahuarcani and Colectivo Acciones de Arte follow. In May, Damian Ortega receives a retrospective. The programme runs all year and culminates in a five-floor collective show in September.
Pinacoteca's biggest opening of the year. Pascale Marthine Tayou's Nocaute on March 7 is the Pinacoteca's marquee event for the first half of 2026 - seven galleries at Pina Luz dedicated to one of Africa's most prominent contemporary artists. On the same day, Cristina Salgado unveils her career-largest installation in the Octogono and Macunaima e Duwid opens at Pina Estacao, reinterpreting Mario de Andrade's modernist classic from an indigenous perspective ahead of its centenary.
First full working week. Sao Paulo settles into the first standard Monday after the Carnaval-to-March transition. Schools and offices are at full capacity. Traffic on the marginais and the rodizio system are both in normal operation.
