U.S.-Israeli Strikes Target Over 2,000 Sites in Iran
(MENAFN) Israel and the United States have struck upwards of 2,000 targets inside Iran since initiating a coordinated military campaign in the early hours of Saturday, media reported, drawing on two individuals with direct knowledge of the operation.
The offensive, which got underway Saturday morning, has encompassed large-scale aerial operations, according to the report. The Israeli military disclosed that it has unleashed thousands of munitions and executed more than 700 sorties over Iranian airspace since the campaign commenced.
Reported targets spanned a broad spectrum of high-value assets — among them senior military and political leadership, including Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and commanders within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Also hit were air defense systems, ballistic missile stockpiles and their launch infrastructure, intelligence installations, and command-and-control centers.
A senior Israeli military official told The Wall Street Journal that Israeli and US forces spent months in close coordination assembling a comprehensive target list, logging thousands of hours in intelligence collection and operational planning ahead of the strikes.
The joint campaign has reportedly claimed the lives of several of Iran's most senior leaders, including Khamenei. Tehran retaliated swiftly, launching successive waves of drone and missile strikes directed at Israel, American assets, and multiple Gulf states.
The current escalation mirrors a prior Israeli-US strike campaign against Iran last June — an offensive that ignited a 12-day armed conflict before both sides agreed to a ceasefire.
