Türkiye’s Havelsan Launches Simulator for Gokbey Helicopter Training
(MENAFN) Türkiye’s defense company Havelsan has finalized the development of the Goksim full-flight simulator, specifically designed to train pilots on the Gokbey, a versatile helicopter produced by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI).
The simulator is now operational and will support pilot training for type conversion, emergency procedures, mission rehearsals, and maintenance operations for the TAI Gokbey fleet.
Mehmet Akif Nacar, Havelsan’s general manager, told reports that the project has reached the delivery phase and that the first pilots to use the new system will come from the Gendarmerie Aviation Command.
Havelsan has previously developed simulators for helicopters such as the Atak, Seahawk, Black Hawk, and Cougar.
According to Nacar, Goksim is powered entirely by domestically produced software, with Havelsan engineers creating the visual models, display systems, and image generators internally. The team also designed a custom database to faithfully reproduce real-world airports and surrounding terrain.
He added that flight hours accumulated in the simulator will be credited toward actual flight time, as the system meets the highest certification requirements of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
The Goksim simulator includes an expanded external frame to mirror the Gokbey’s wide cockpit design, including downward-facing floor windows. Visual projection and mirror systems were enhanced to provide pilots with a broad, realistic field of view.
