U.S. Says It Obliterated IRGC Headquarters
(MENAFN) US Central Command (CENTCOM) declared Sunday that it had obliterated the headquarters of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in a large-scale strike, asserting it had cut off "the head of the snake" in one of the most significant blows yet delivered against Tehran's military apparatus.
CENTCOM leveled sweeping accusations against the IRGC, charging the force with responsibility for killing more than 1,000 Americans over the past 47 years, and issuing a blunt declaration that "the IRGC no longer has a headquarters."
Tehran has not confirmed the strike.
However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi acknowledged the country's military command structure had suffered serious disruption, revealing that units were now "independent and somewhat isolated" and operating "based on general instructions given to them in advance" — a candid admission pointing to significant degradation of centralized military coordination.
The announcement came as the joint US-Israeli military campaign, launched Saturday, pushed into its second consecutive day of operations. The offensive has already claimed the lives of several of Iran's most senior officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Iran has responded forcefully, unleashing successive waves of drone and missile strikes against Gulf nations in retaliation. Meanwhile, the toll on American forces continues to climb, with three US service members confirmed killed and five others left seriously wounded since operations first began.
