U.S. Reports Sinking Nine Iranian Warships
(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump announced Sunday that American forces have sunk nine Iranian warships and devastated Iran's naval headquarters as the military campaign against Tehran surged into its second day with sweeping intensity.
"I have just been informed that we have destroyed and sunk 9 Iranian Naval Ships, some of them relatively large and important," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
"In a different attack, we largely destroyed their Naval Headquarters," he added, confirming that U.S. forces are actively pursuing the remainder of Iran's naval fleet.
The U.S. Central Command separately confirmed that American forces struck an Iranian Jamaran-class corvette at the outset of the operation — officially designated Operation Epic Fury — which launched Saturday morning. "The ship is currently sinking to the bottom of the Gulf of Oman at a Chah Bahar pier," the command said.
Since the operation commenced, U.S. forces have struck more than 1,000 Iranian targets, the command said, including the headquarters of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. On Saturday night, U.S. B-2 stealth bombers armed with 2,000-pound munitions struck Iran's fortified ballistic missile infrastructure, it added.
Central Command also flatly rejected Iranian claims that its forces had struck the USS Abraham Lincoln. "The Lincoln was not hit. The missiles launched didn't even come close," it said.
The command confirmed that three U.S. soldiers were killed in action and five others seriously wounded during the ongoing military operation.
Earlier Sunday, Trump told media that 48 senior Iranian officials had been killed in the joint U.S.-Israeli strikes — strikes that have already claimed the life of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran subsequently launched retaliatory waves of missiles and drones targeting Israeli positions and U.S. military installations throughout the Gulf region.
