Over 1,500 Flights Cancelled Today Across GCC, Middle East Countries Due To US-Iran War

More than 1,500 inbound flights were cancelled across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Middle Eastern countries as of 4 pm UAE time on Sunday, according to Cirium.

The latest data released by the aviation analytics company said 3,990 flights were scheduled across nine regional countries – Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt, Qatar, Iran, Israel, Oman, Jordan and Bahrain – and 1,579 of them were cancelled, accounting for nearly 40 per cent of the total inbound flights.

Most of these flights were cancelled in the Gulf countries.

For arrivals to Turkiye, 92 of the 1,636 scheduled flights were cancelled.

Flights from all the major European, Asian, African and American airports – including London Heathrow, Frankfurt, Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, Amsterdam Schiphol, JFK Airport, Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and others to the region were cancelled.

Some of the airlines that have cancelled their flights on Saturday and Sunday include Emirates, flydubai, Etihad Airways, Air Arabia, Qatar Airways, IndiGo, Air India Express, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Air India, British Airways, Iran Aseman Airlines, Iraqi Airways, Jazeera Airways, Kuwait Airways, EI AI, EgyptAir, Royal Jordanian, Saudia, Turkish Airlines, United Airlines, Wizz Air, Oman Air, Flynas among others, according to Cirium.

Many airlines suspended flights till Monday.

Dubai's flagship carrier, Emirates, has suspended all operations to and from Dubai until 1500hrs UAE time on Monday, March 2, due to multiple regional airspace closures.

Due to ongoing developments in the region, flydubai said it has suspended all flights to and from Dubai until 15:00 (UAE time) on Monday, March 2, 2026.

Air India Express extended the suspension of flights to and from the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia until midnight on March 2, 2026.

Sharjah-based budget carrier Air Arabia flights to and from the UAE were suspended until 15:00 (UAE time) Monday, March 2.

The UAE and Gulf countries' airspace remained closed on Sunday as part of precautionary measures due to the Iranian drones and missiles.
