Iranian FM Claims Supreme Leader Khamenei “Still Alive”
(MENAFN) Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on Saturday that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei remains alive “as far as I know,” according to reports from an interview with a news agency.
“Almost all officials are safe and sound and alive. We may have lost one or two commanders, but that is not a big problem,” he said, stressing that the leadership remains largely intact.
Responding to US President Donald Trump’s pre-recorded remarks following the attacks, Araghchi dismissed attempts at regime change as "Mission Impossible." He added, "You cannot do regime change while millions of people are supporting this so-called regime," while emphasizing that Tehran is "certainly interested for de-escalation." He noted, "Well, there is no communication right now. But if Americans want to talk to us, they know how."
Regarding the impact of the US and Israeli strikes, Araghchi downplayed the overall damage and highlighted Iran’s swift military response, stating that retaliation was launched “in less than two hours.” He condemned a strike on a girls’ primary school in Minab, Hormozgan province, where at least 40 people were killed, calling it “unprovoked, illegal and absolutely illegitimate and against international law.”
“I don't know why... why they decided to attack us, perhaps, you know, it was others who dragged the United States for their own benefits into this,” Araghchi added, as stated by reports.
