Israeli Army Unleashes Fresh Wave of Strikes on Tehran
(MENAFN) The Israeli army announced Sunday it had unleashed a new round of airstrikes against targets across Tehran, as multiple explosions rocked the Iranian capital and state media reported blasts reverberating through densely populated urban districts.
In an official military statement, the Israel Defense Forces said the strikes were executed by the air force "guided by army intelligence" against targets linked to the "Iranian regime" — signaling a continued and deliberate campaign against the heart of Iran's power structure.
On the ground, Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency reported several explosions in northern Tehran, as the city braced under yet another aerial assault.
An Iranian news agency, reported that loud blasts caused by missile and airstrikes were heard in several areas, including Seyed Khandan, Qasr crossroads, Vanak Square, and Motahari Street — densely populated neighborhoods at the center of the capital.
Sunday's fresh bombardment marks a significant intensification of the military campaign that erupted Saturday when US and Israeli forces launched coordinated strikes on Iranian soil, triggering retaliatory waves of missiles and drones from Tehran across the broader region.
The renewed offensive comes hours after Iran confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei alongside several top officials — a historic rupture in Iranian leadership that has done little, thus far, to halt the relentless exchange of fire between the two sides.
