Two Drones Strike Oman's Duqm Port, Leaving One Injured

(MENAFN) Two drones struck a commercial port on Oman's eastern coast on Sunday, injuring a foreign worker and sending debris dangerously close to fuel storage infrastructure, Omani state media reported — marking a direct hit on neutral territory as the regional conflict sparked by the US-Israeli assault on Iran continues to spread.

A state news agency, citing an official source, confirmed that the port located in the city of Duqm in Al Wusta governorate was "targeted by two drones."

One of the drones struck a mobile workers' housing unit, injuring a foreign worker, while debris from the second fell near fuel storage tanks without causing human casualties or material damage, the source said.

The proximity of the second drone's impact to fuel storage facilities raised immediate concerns over the potential for catastrophic industrial damage in future strikes on the strategically significant port.

Muscat moved swiftly to condemn the assault, issuing a stern warning that it "is undertaking all necessary measures to address any actions that may impinge upon the safety of the nation and those residing within it," though authorities declined to elaborate further or attribute responsibility.

The attack places Oman in an increasingly precarious position. The Gulf nation has long played a rare and delicate diplomatic role as a back-channel mediator in indirect nuclear negotiations between Washington and Tehran — a neutrality that now appears insufficient to shield it from the escalating military fallout.

The strikes followed Saturday's joint US and Israeli military offensive against Iran, which triggered waves of retaliatory missile and drone attacks from Tehran across multiple Gulf states. The crisis deepened further on Sunday when Iran confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several senior officials — a seismic blow to the Iranian leadership whose consequences for the region's already fragile stability continue to unfold.
