Over 100,000 Israelis Stuck Abroad as Israel Closes Its Airspace

(MENAFN) More than 100,000 Israeli citizens are stranded overseas after Israel sealed its airspace Saturday in anticipation of potential Iranian retaliation following a joint US-Israeli airstrike campaign against Tehran, a news channel reported.

Ben Gurion Airport, the country's primary international gateway located near Tel Aviv, has been shut to all civilian air traffic indefinitely, with both arrivals and departures brought to a complete halt, the broadcaster said.

With skies closed, land border crossings have emerged as the sole remaining route for stranded nationals attempting to return home — a logistically strained option amid mounting regional tensions.

The National Security Council has separately issued warnings of possible retaliatory strikes against Israeli targets across multiple countries, following the early Saturday offensive launched jointly by Washington and Tel Aviv against Iran — a move that has dramatically raised the stakes across the region.

The airspace closure marks one of the most sweeping aviation disruptions in Israel's recent history, leaving tens of thousands of citizens in transit limbo as the government scrambles to manage both the security threat and the growing humanitarian headache of mass displacement abroad.
