Serbia Loses to Turkey in FIBA 2027 World Cup European Qualifiers

(MENAFN) Türkiye claimed an 82-78 road win over Serbia on Friday in a Group C matchup of the FIBA 2027 World Cup European Qualifiers, played at Aleksandar Nikolic Hall.

The result allowed Türkiye to remain undefeated atop the group standings with three consecutive victories, while Serbia absorbed its first defeat of the campaign.

The visitors seized early momentum, launching a decisive 10-0 run midway through the opening quarter and finishing the period ahead 22-13. Türkiye maintained control in the second quarter, widening the gap to 45-31 by halftime. Serbia responded after the break, trimming the deficit with a late surge in the third quarter to make it 57-54 entering the final frame.

Serbia managed to pull ahead for the first time with 1:41 left on the clock, taking a narrow 73-72 lead. However, in the crucial closing moments, Tarık Biberovic drained a key three-pointer to put Türkiye back in front. The visitors then held firm defensively and preserved their advantage until the final buzzer.

Biberovic finished as Türkiye’s top scorer with 22 points, while Cedi Osman contributed 16. For Serbia, Bogoljub Markovic posted 19 points and Ognjen Dobric added 17 in the losing effort.
