Iran Reports Four Top Military Officials Killed in US-Israeli Attacks

(MENAFN) Iran's armed forces acknowledged Sunday that four of the country's most senior military commanders were killed in the sweeping US-Israeli assault that began a day earlier, according to a news agency — a devastating blow to the Islamic Republic's entire military leadership structure.

A formal military statement revealed the officials were targeted while convened at a meeting of the Defense Council, effectively wiping out a significant portion of Iran's top brass in a single strike.

Those confirmed killed include Chief of the General Staff Abdolrahim Mousavi, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Mohammad Pakpour, Defense Council Secretary Ali Shamkhani, and Minister of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics Aziz Nasirzadeh — a simultaneous elimination of four pillars of Iran's military command that has no modern precedent.

Iran's armed forces warned that names of others commanders killed would be announced later, signaling the full casualty count among senior officials has yet to be disclosed.

Iranian authorities had previously confirmed the deaths of Shamkhani and Pakpour independently. The losses compound what is already an unprecedented national crisis following the assassination of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, also killed in the strikes. In response, authorities have declared a 40-day mourning period and named an interim council to govern until a successor to Khamenei is chosen — setting in motion a succession process with profound implications for the region's future.
