Arab Nations Close Airspace Amid US, Israel Attacks on Iran
(MENAFN) Several Arab nations announced temporary restrictions on air and maritime traffic Saturday, following ongoing US-Israeli strikes on Iran and subsequent retaliatory measures by Tehran. Some countries also reported intercepting missiles during the escalation.
The closures were declared across multiple states, including Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Syria, and Morocco.
In Qatar, the Civil Aviation Authority announced a “temporary suspension of air navigation.” The Ministry of Transport also urged maritime operators, including vessel owners and companies, to temporarily halt marine navigation after Qatar intercepted incoming missiles.
In the United Arab Emirates, the General Civil Aviation Authority imposed a temporary, partial closure of the country’s airspace as an “exceptional precautionary measure.” Officials emphasized that the measure aims to protect flight safety, crews, and national territory amid rapidly evolving regional security conditions. The decision followed a comprehensive risk assessment and coordination with local and international agencies, with authorities stressing that airspace safety and sovereignty remain top priorities.
Kuwait announced the suspension and cancellation of all flights to Iran until further notice. The Civil Aviation Authority spokesman stated that the move responds to the current regional situation and the complete closure of Iranian airspace. He added that other flights might be affected if their routes previously traversed Iranian airspace.
In Bahrain, the Civil Aviation Affairs indicated that, due to airspace restrictions in Bahrain and neighboring states, flights at Bahrain International Airport could face diversions, cancellations, or rescheduling.
