Oman’s Top Diplomat Voices Concern Over US-Israel Action on Iran

(MENAFN) Oman’s foreign minister publicly criticized the recent joint military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel against Iran, expressing concern that the escalation could derail diplomatic progress and intensify regional instability.

Badr Albusaidi said he was troubled by the developments, warning that the attacks had disrupted ongoing negotiations. Writing on the US-based social media platform X, he stated, "I am dismayed. Active and serious negotiations have yet again been undermined,"

He further argued that the strikes were counterproductive to both American strategic interests and broader international stability, adding, "Neither the interests of the United States nor the cause of global peace are well served by this."

Calling directly on Washington to avoid deeper involvement, Albusaidi said, "I urge the United States not to get sucked in further," and stressed, "This is not your war."

He also expressed concern for civilians who may be affected by the hostilities, writing, "I pray for the innocents who will suffer,"

His comments are particularly significant given Oman’s longstanding mediating role in discussions between Washington and Tehran over Iran’s nuclear activities. Just hours before the strikes, Albusaidi had met with US Vice President JD Vance and conveyed optimism about diplomatic prospects, stating that "peace is within our reach."

The military action occurred while the United States and Iran were engaged in negotiations concerning Tehran’s nuclear program, with the latest round of talks having concluded in Geneva on Thursday.

In announcing the operation early Saturday, US and Israeli officials described it as a coordinated effort targeting what they called "threats" posed by the "Iranian regime."

The developments follow an earlier episode last June, when the United States conducted strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities during a 12-day confrontation between Israel and Iran.
