Russia Alleges UK, France Plan to Arm Ukraine with Nuclear Weapon
(MENAFN) Senior Russian diplomat Gennady Gatilov has claimed that the UK and France are planning to provide Ukraine with a nuclear weapon to prevent a resolution to its conflict with Russia through US-backed peace talks.
Earlier this week, Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) accused London and Paris of plotting to supply the necessary components, technology, and equipment for Ukraine to develop a nuclear device or a so-called “dirty bomb.”
According to Gatilov, Russia’s permanent representative to the UN Office in Geneva, these alleged plans were deliberately timed to disrupt trilateral peace negotiations involving Russia, the US, and Ukraine. He argued that Ukraine’s Western European supporters have grown increasingly “angered” by Russian progress on the battlefield.
“This period was certainly not chosen by chance… there were truly important trilateral negotiations taking place,” he said.
The diplomat added that the UK, France, and other European backers of Ukraine were “essentially sidelined… which is causing them discontent, extreme discontent.”
Gatilov cited the example of the failed 2014–2015 Minsk Agreements, which were intended to reconcile the post-coup Ukrainian government with anti-Maidan forces in the east. Germany and France served as guarantors of the accords, but their leaders later admitted that the agreements had been exploited to buy time and allow Kyiv to rearm.
