Trump Warns Iran Over Possible Retaliation Following Khamenei Killing

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump issued a warning to Iran on Sunday regarding a potentially "very hard" retaliation after Iranian state media confirmed that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had been killed in joint US-Israeli strikes carried out the previous day.

"Iran just stated that they are going to hit very hard today, harder than they have ever hit before," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

"They better not do that, however, because if they do, we will hit them with a force that has never been seen before," he added.

Beginning Saturday morning, Israel and the US launched attacks across several Iranian cities, resulting in the death of the supreme leader and numerous senior security officials.

Reports indicate that Israel described the operation as targeting an "existential threat," while Trump announced "major combat operations" aimed at the Iranian "regime."

In response, Iran conducted drone and missile strikes against Israel and US assets in the region, prompting multiple Gulf countries to close their airspace.

Following the confirmation of Khamenei's death, Iranian authorities vowed revenge, declared a 40-day mourning period, and appointed an interim council to govern until a successor is selected.
