UN Relief Chief Says Teams Ready to Respond to Middle East Strikes
(MENAFN) UN relief chief Tom Fletcher said Saturday that humanitarian teams are ready to respond to the consequences of ongoing strikes in the Middle East.
Writing on the US-based social media platform X, Fletcher said, "In close touch today with our humanitarian teams across Middle East - ready to respond to humanitarian impact of strikes swiftly and effectively. Civilians must be protected."
The remarks come as the United States and Israel launched a major military operation against Iran on Saturday. President Donald Trump described the strikes as aimed at degrading Tehran’s military capabilities and neutralizing what Washington calls a nuclear threat, urging Iranians to “take over your government” once the operation concludes.
In response, Iran fired drones and missiles toward Israel and targeted US military facilities in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar.
