Canada's Carney Arrives in India to Repair Ruptured Bilateral Ties

The diplomatic centerpiece of the visit comes on March 2, when Carney will sit down with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi for wide-ranging talks spanning multiple areas of cooperation, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs confirmed.
The visit carries considerable symbolic weight. Ties between Ottawa and New Delhi collapsed in 2023 after then-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau publicly alleged Indian government involvement in the killing of prominent Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil — an accusation India flatly denied, triggering a prolonged and bitter diplomatic standoff.
