Israel Halts All Crossings in Palestinian Territories Amid Strikes on Iran
(MENAFN) Israel announced Saturday that it will seal all border crossings in the Palestinian territories starting Sunday and continuing until further notice, following ongoing joint US-Israeli military operations against Iran.
The decision was communicated in a statement issued by the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT). It said, “In conclusion of a situation assessment, and following the operation launched by the Israeli and American armies (against Iran), it was decided to close all crossings in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, including the Rafah crossing, as of tomorrow and until further notice,” the statement said.
According to the announcement, the restrictions will apply to all Palestinians except individuals classified as “vital workers.” Those holding such permits will be allowed to pass through certain crossings, though the specific points were not identified.
The statement further asserted that sealing the crossings into Gaza “will not affect the humanitarian situation” in the enclave.
Earlier in the day, powerful explosions were reported in several parts of the occupied West Bank, with missile debris landing in multiple locations shortly after warning sirens were activated in a number of Israeli settlements, according to reports.
Palestinian police spokesperson Luay Arziqat said authorities received notifications about missile fragments falling in four distinct areas across the West Bank. He confirmed that no injuries or property damage had been recorded.
On Saturday morning, the United States and Israel carried out coordinated strikes against Iran, stating that the operation aimed to eliminate “threats” posed by the Iranian “regime.” In retaliation, Tehran launched missiles and drones targeting Israel as well as US military bases in the region.
Israel subsequently declared a “special and immediate state of emergency” across the country.
Iran, meanwhile, pledged a “harsh response” to what it described as aggression, and proceeded to fire missile barrages and deploy drones toward Israeli territory and American bases in the Middle East.
