Anna Swartwood House
- Associate Professor of Art History, University of South Carolina
My research focuses on cross-cultural connections between Renaissance artists and artworks; artists' biographies; the intersection of architecture and painting; and the reception of art. I am an associate professor of art history at the University of South Carolina, where I teach courses on Renaissance and Baroque art as well as the“caves to cathedrals” art history survey. I received the university's Michael J. Mungo Undergraduate Teaching Award and have also served as a Pearce Faculty Fellow for the South Carolina Honors College. I am the author of ANTONELLO DA MESSINA AND THE HISTORY OF ART (Routledge, 2025). I have received fellowships in support of the research and writing from the Renaissance Society of America, the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, the Gladys Krieble Delmas Foundation, and the University of South Carolina's Office of the Provost.
When I'm not in the classroom or in front of my laptop, I love to work on museum exhibitions and public programs. I have given lectures, contributed to publications, and planned exhibitions at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Princeton University Art Museum, and the Columbia Museum of Art.
