US Lawmaker Urges CIA to Disclose Any Links to Jeffrey Epstein

(MENAFN) A Republican member of Congress has called on the Central Intelligence Agency to make public any records connected to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, arguing that Americans have a right to know whether the agency had any association with him.

Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina appealed for the disclosure of "any and all records, documents, photos, videos, passports and other materials" tied to Epstein and his longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell.

"Congress needs to know what, if any, relationship the CIA had with Jeffrey Epstein," Mace said on the US-based social media platform X.

In correspondence addressed to CIA Director John Ratcliffe, Mace referenced documents previously made public by the United States Department of Justice. Those records indicated that Epstein’s legal team submitted a Freedom of Information Act request in 2011 seeking details about any CIA affiliation. At the time, the agency replied without confirming or denying the existence of classified files.

Her letter also highlighted Epstein’s reported connections to individuals linked to the Iran-Contra affair, his reported communication with former CIA Director William Burns, and mentions of CIA-related subjects in his email correspondence.

"The American people -- and the survivors of Epstein's heinous crimes -- deserve complete transparency on whether the CIA had any affiliation with prolific sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein or had any knowledge of his nefarious activities," Mace wrote.

Recently, the Justice Department disclosed more than three million pages of documents, along with 2,000 videos and 180,000 images, under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, enacted last November. The release includes grand jury materials and investigative records, though many sections remain heavily redacted.

Survivors and relatives of victims have argued that the disclosure does not fully satisfy the law’s transparency requirements and leaves out significant information.

Epstein died in 2019 in a New York City detention facility while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges involving minors. Authorities ruled his death a suicide.
