Tendaiishe Berejena
- Public Health Nutrition Researcher, University of South Africa
An academic doctor with multidisciplinary expertise including food and nutrition, public health nutrition researcher, education and training. I bring vast experience in the field of research focusing on nutrition medicine, phytotherapy, nutritional epidemiology, food security and sustainability.
Besides my doctorate in food and nutrition, I am also expecting to complete my online Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in the next nine months which will also enable me to be versatile in other public health areas such as occupational health. My postdoctoral fellow experience at the University of South Africa gave me a track record of compiling grant proposals, conducting scientific research, preparing manuscripts for publication in accredited journals, and supervising Master's and PhD students specialising in nutrition, dietetics, and consumer sciences.
In nutrition medicine and phytotherapy, I researched the contribution of indigenous foods to reduce the impact of inflammatory markers on type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). One of my studies also revealed the probiotic benefits of fermented indigenous foods. I also developed a responsive training framework that was presented to the National Department of Education in South Africa focusing on the Nutrition Sensitive Social Protection programme.
