Over Twenty Dead in DR Congo Rebel Attack
(MENAFN) A deadly rampage by Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) militants across eastern Democratic Republic of Congo has claimed at least 21 lives, authorities confirmed Monday, as recovery teams continue uncovering victims from Friday's coordinated strikes.
The simultaneous assaults struck the Bapakombe residential zone within Lubero territory, North Kivu province, where insurgents systematically targeted civilian communities.
"The death toll from ADF attack has risen to 21 from 14 initially reported after more bodies were recovered on Sunday," Bapakombe group chief Boniface Kanyamulamba told reporters in Lubero.
"Three villages including Boti, Isigo and Mambimbi were targeted in these latest simultaneous attacks. The rebels also burned many houses and several people remain unaccounted for following the attack," Kanyamulamba added.
The escalating rebel offensive has sparked mass evacuations throughout the territory, with terrified residents streaming toward Kambau town seeking refuge in zones perceived as secure, local media outlets report.
Security deterioration has crippled normal existence across multiple communities—shuttering schools, halting commercial operations, and paralyzing routine activities.
