UN Chief Strongly Denounces Mosque Suicide Bombing in Islamabad
(MENAFN) UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned a suicide bombing at a mosque in Islamabad, describing the attack as “unacceptable,” according to reports.
Guterres emphasized that assaults on civilians and places of worship cannot be tolerated and called for those responsible to be identified and held accountable. He extended condolences to the families of the victims and wished a “full and speedy” recovery to the injured, reaffirming the UN’s support for Pakistan in its fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
Pakistani authorities reported that at least 31 people were killed and more than 169 others injured when a suicide bomber detonated explosives inside Imambargah Khadijah-tul-Kubra, a Shia Muslim mosque in the Shehzad Town area, during Friday prayers.
