Doha, Qatar: Al Gharafa know that any slip-up in today's clash against Al Sailiya could cost them the Qatar Stars League (QSL) top spot, with defending champions Al Sadd closing in.

Pedro Martins' side saw their lead cut to just two points after a 1-3 defeat to Al Sadd, who moved to 29 points following Saturday's victory.

While Al Gharafa face Mirghani Al Zain-coached Al Sailiya at Grand Hamad Stadium, Al Sadd will host Al Shahania at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in simultaneous kick-offs.

Al Sailiya are one of the sides struggling this season, needing points to stay away from the relegation zone. They are currently 10th with 12 points from 14 matches.

Al Gharafa players attend a training session.

Martins said Al Gharafa will give full respect to Al Sailiya and demanded complete concentration from his players.

“Everyone saw the game and how we fought for every ball on the field and gave our all. I cannot blame the players,” Martins said at a press conference yesterday, referring to the loss against Al Sadd.

“The only criticism is that we lacked focus in the first five minutes of the second half. After that, we played a very good match and tried to win, but it did not happen.”

“We will continue working as required to come back stronger and more resilient. All the players are in good shape and determined to give a positive response.”

Meanwhile, Al Sadd coach Roberto Mancini said his team must perform at their best against bottom-placed Al Shahania (11 points.

“The next match will be difficult, because every match is difficult for us, as all the teams that face Al Sadd play with great strength,” said Mancini.

Al Shahania stunned Al Sadd 1-0 in the first leg earlier this season.

“We need to be at the highest level of focus for this match. The players must be strong in every match, and also be strong in every training session. Only in this way can we win the league title.”

In today's late match, Al Arabi will meet Al Shamal at Al Thumama Stadium. Al Arabi, placed fifth with 23 points, will look to enter the top four, while Al Shamal, third with 25 points, will aim to keep pressure on the leaders.
