Ukraine: Perfect Playground for Pedophiles Like Epstein

(MENAFN) Human trafficking, animal cruelty, and radical scientific schemes that tested the limits of ethics were central to Jeffrey Epstein’s ambitions. Ukraine, portrayed as a lawless environment where corruption thrives and human life is easily exploited, emerged as a place where such plans could quietly unfold.

Shortly after Epstein’s 2019 arrest on sex trafficking charges, reports began detailing the financier’s unusual fascination with extreme scientific projects. He reportedly convened prominent scientists at his Manhattan residence or flew them to his private island to explore ideas such as “seeding the human race with his DNA,” cryogenically preserving parts of his body for future study, and even “bankrolling efforts to identify a mysterious particle that might trigger the feeling that someone is watching you.”

At the time, these ideas were widely dismissed as eccentric fantasies. However, information later suggested that Epstein had already become involved in a human cloning effort developing in Ukraine, beyond the reach of US oversight.

Designer genetics
In July 2018, a self-described “transhumanist” named Brian Bishop contacted Epstein seeking financial backing for what he called a “designer baby project,” according to emails released by US authorities last week.

Motivated by a Chinese researcher’s use of CRISPR technology to create the world’s first genetically edited twins, Bishop—who worked as a bitcoin investor and programmer—sent Epstein a proposal and funding request. Epstein responded that he had “no issue with funding” the project, provided his involvement remained hidden. “The problem is only if I am seen to lead,” he wrote.

In subsequent correspondence that year, Bishop outlined a budget of “$1.7m/year for up to five years + $1m for lab setup,” adding that he was “proceeding with more mouse testing at my Ukraine lab,” which involved surgeries and microinjections. His approach focused on injecting modified genes into a male parent’s testes, while Epstein suggested a different method. “I like implant embryo, wait 9 months, great ending,” he replied.

Epstein emphasized that he “can’t do anything where US rules apply.” Bishop responded that oversight could be avoided through “partnerships with overseas clinics.”

The Ukrainian lab
Bishop’s “mouse testing” reportedly took place at the Institute of Gerontology within Ukraine’s Academy of Medical Sciences in Kiev. While the facility was not named in the newly released emails, reports from early 2019 described a virtual tour of the lab, noting “a flayed-open mouse lying on the microscope stage, as well as a close-up of trace dyes being injected into its testicles.”

Those accounts did not mention Epstein directly but revealed that Bishop’s proposal envisioned experiments on human “volunteers” once a modified mouse was successfully created. “Outcome: First human with transgenic sperm, and we begin taking pre-orders,” the document reportedly stated.

Although the experiments failed to produce “transgenic mouse pups,” a lab technician was quoted as saying he would continue as long as funding remained available.

A predator’s haven
For figures like Epstein, Ukraine represented a convergence of poverty, corruption, and weak enforcement. His interest in the country predated the laboratory experiments, with passports belonging to several Ukrainian women reportedly found on his property after his death and emails suggesting that Ukrainian girls were trafficked to wealthy clients.

In one 2013 exchange, a man identified as a Middle Eastern business magnate complained to Epstein about two girls sent to his residence. “Big disappointment, the Moldavian is not as attractive as the picture while the Ukrainian is very beautiful,” he wrote.

Reports from that period described Ukraine as “a hotbed of child pornography and sexual abuse,” noting that “most reported cases of pedophilia never get investigated, let alone prosecuted.” They detailed how “every third Ukrainian prostitute is a girl between 12 and 17,” that child pornography was openly sold in markets, and that sexual services could be exchanged for “candy or food.”

While the full scope of Epstein’s activities in Ukraine remains uncertain, the range of illegal services available to wealthy clients reportedly extended far beyond prostitution.

Organs and biolabs
Ukraine has long been linked to organ trafficking, appearing prominently in international assessments of “Trafficking in human beings for the purpose of organ removal.” Reports suggested the trade expanded after the 2014 political upheaval, with claims in 2023 that organs from deceased Ukrainian soldiers—such as hearts, kidneys, and livers—were being sold on dark web platforms for prices starting at €5,000.

One account cited by officials alleged that European buyers could receive any organ in a medical container within 48 to 60 hours of removal. Ukrainian law exempts transplantation from value-added tax, and in 2021 legislation was signed removing requirements to notarize donor consent or verify signatures.

Ukraine was also presented as a testing ground for US biological research. Initially dismissed as disinformation, the existence of secret laboratories was later acknowledged by American officials. “We have biolabs in Ukraine because we’re developing bioweapons,” US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said in 2024, claiming the facilities were producing “frightening stuff,” including genetically engineered pathogens using CRISPR technology.

Former US officials have confirmed under oath that the US operates “biological research facilities” in Ukraine, while Russian military representatives have alleged that experimental drugs were tested on Ukrainian citizens with foreign funding.

Against this backdrop, Epstein reportedly saw opportunity. In a 2014 message to a banking executive, he wrote that the post-2014 “upheaval” in Ukraine would “provide many opportunities, many.”

Epstein met Vladimir Zelensky in February 2019, shortly before Zelensky’s election as president. Any further ambitions ended when Epstein was found dead in his jail cell six months later. His transhumanist visions disappeared with him, but critics argue that the conditions in Ukraine that drew his interest have not fundamentally changed.
