Bahrain Urges Residents To Update Mobile Devices To Receive Emergency Alerts

Bahrain on Saturday, January 31, called on its citizens and residents who use Apple devices to update their phones to the latest version in order to receive emergency alerts.

The Ministry of Interior urged users to update their phones to the 26.2 version to ensure the prompt and complete receival of alerts in the event of any emergency.

Meanwhile, the authority clarified no action is required for Android or Huawei devices users.

Last month, Bahrain approved a phased pilot operation of a wireless emergency alert system aimed at strengthening public safety and civil protection.

The wireless alert system provides the necessary information to citizens and residents before, during, and after emergencies. It a qualitative leap in the mechanisms for warning and communicating with the public during emergencies. It improves how the public is warned and keeps everyone informed within a record time period and effectively.

The decision was taken at a Civil Defence Council meeting, where members reviewed the early warning project and discussed ways to improve emergency procedures, scenarios, government roles, and coordination between sectors, with a primary focus on national readiness and coordination among government agencies.

The system was said to be tested in stages and deployed initially in designated emergency zones once infrastructure and operational preparations are completed.

Meanwhile, neighbouring country Kuwait announced on January 15 it would be regularly testing its warning sirens. The authority emphasised that this is routine and a precautionary measure.

In the press note, it added that these checks will be performed regularly, on the first Monday of every month - at 10am.

The country also conducted joint training programmed aimed at enhancing efficiency and coordination in responding to chemical, biological, and radiological incidents during this time.

In 2025, amid rising regional tensions, Kuwait's finance ministry said it set up shelters in the country's ministries complex.
