Made With Love?: Circular Library Hosts Natural Dye Silk Scarf Workshop With IROCOH
Los Angeles, CA - February 1, 2026 - Circular Library, a destination dedicated to circular fashion, creative reuse, and sustainable living, is hosting“Made With Love?: Natural Dye Silk Scarf Making,” a hands-on textile workshop led by IROCOH founder and textile designer Alisa Benfey. The workshop will take place on Sunday, February 1, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM, and is now open for registration.
Designed as an intimate, immersive experience, the workshop invites participants to explore the art of steam dyeing, an ecological and intuitive dyeing technique that uses a stovetop steamer to gently transfer natural pigments from plants directly onto fabric. Using unexpected dye sources such as flower petals, fallen leaves, and even kitchen scraps, attendees will discover how everyday organic materials can be transformed into rich colors and organic patterns.
Each participant will create and take home two one-of-a-kind silk scarves-one dyed on a white base and one on a pre-dyed base. While the technique remains consistent, the results are always unpredictable, revealing unique color stories shaped by plant matter, placement, and steam. No two scarves will be alike, making each finished piece a personal record of the maker's process.
The workshop is intentionally limited to eight participants, ensuring a calm, hands-on environment where each attendee receives personalized guidance. No prior experience is required, and there is no minimum age, making the class accessible to both beginners and experienced creatives alike.
Timed just ahead of Valentine's Day, Made With Love? is positioned as a meaningful alternative to traditional gifts. Whether attended with a partner or friend-or taken solo to create something heartfelt for a loved one-the workshop emphasizes the value of slow making and intentional gifting. Each scarf becomes not just an accessory, but a story, crafted by hand and imbued with care.
The class fee is $150 per person, which includes all materials, an instructional booklet, and two silk scarves to take home. Classes are non-refundable and non-transferable. In the event that fewer than five participants enroll, the workshop will be canceled and all fees fully refunded.
The workshop will be taught by Alisa Benfey, a textile and graphic designer and self-taught natural dyer. Originally from Tokyo, Benfey holds a BFA in Graphic Design from CalArts and an MFA in Textile Design from Tama Art University. Her work centers on sustainable design and color research through natural dyes. She runs her textile brand, IROCOH, and teaches workshops throughout Los Angeles, sharing her deep knowledge of plant-based dyeing and mindful making.
This collaboration reflects Circular Library's broader mission to build community around sustainable fashion while offering tangible, creative ways to engage with circular practices. By bringing together education, craftsmanship, and ecological awareness, the workshop encourages participants to slow down, reconnect with materials, and rethink how objects are made and valued.
