Police Uncover Embezzlement Of Over UAH 43M During Reconstruction Of Chornomorsk Port
It was established that a contract was signed between the Illichivsk branch of the State Enterprise Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority and a private company to carry out reconstruction works on the hydraulic engineering part of a berth on the territory and in the waters of the Chornomorsk seaport. The total cost of the works amounted to UAH 88.5 million.
“To fulfill the terms of the contract, the customer transferred an advance payment to the contractor amounting to 50 percent of the total cost of the works – UAH 43.4 million. At the same time, the contracting company never began the work, and its officials disposed of the received budget funds at their own discretion,” the National Police said.
The head of the commercial entity acting as the contractor has been notified of suspicion for misappropriation of property through abuse of office, committed on an especially large scale (Part 5, Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of the article provides for up to 12 years' imprisonment with confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years.
The suspect has admitted guilt in the crime he is accused of and has provided incriminating testimony.
