Egypt Urges Israel’s Withdrawal from Gaza

(MENAFN) On Sunday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty urged Israel to pull its forces out of the Gaza Strip and to resume operations at the Rafah border crossing in line with the ceasefire agreement reached last year.

He made these remarks during talks in Cairo with US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau, where the two sides exchanged views on bilateral ties as well as key regional issues.

According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, the meetings focused on avenues to deepen the strategic alliance between Egypt and the United States, alongside efforts to expand cooperation in political and economic spheres.

The dialogue also addressed ongoing developments in Gaza, Sudan, and the Horn of Africa, in addition to matters related to Egypt’s water security.

During the meeting, Abdelatty expressed appreciation for Egypt’s inclusion in US President Donald Trump’s “Board of Peace.”

As outlined in its charter, the board is a global body aimed at advancing stability, restoring sound governance and the rule of law, and securing sustainable peace in regions affected by conflict or at risk of instability.

Abdelatty further underscored the need to carry out the commitments of the second phase of Trump’s Gaza plan, to back a national committee responsible for administering Gaza, and to rapidly deploy an international stabilization force to oversee the ceasefire.
