Border Patrol officer kills armed individual in Minnesota
(MENAFN) A US Border Patrol officer shot and killed a man in Minneapolis on Saturday during a targeted operation, marking the second fatal federal-agent shooting in the city this month, according to reports.
Authorities said the incident occurred at 9:05 a.m. local time after the individual approached officers carrying a 9mm semi-automatic handgun and resisted attempts to disarm him. An agent fired defensive shots, and although medics provided immediate aid, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim, later identified as 37-year-old Alex Jeffrey Pretti, was an intensive care nurse residing in Minneapolis with no prior criminal record beyond minor traffic violations. Officials said he was a lawful gun owner and was carrying two magazines at the time. Video circulating online showed officers struggling to detain him, with some footage appearing to show physical altercations before the shots were fired.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz condemned the shooting as “sickening” and called on the federal government to halt the operation and remove the deployed personnel. He also requested that state authorities, rather than federal agencies, lead the investigation into the incident.
The shooting has drawn widespread attention and criticism, intensifying public debate over federal enforcement tactics in Minneapolis and the use of lethal force.
