Syrian Foreign Ministry Holds The SDF Responsible For Violating Ceasefire Agreements

Damascus: The Syrian Foreign Ministry held the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Thursday responsible for violating the ceasefire agreements, stressing that Damascus retains its full right to protect sovereignty and national security throughout the country.

Sources in the ministry told the Syrian Arab News Agency SANA that the developments east of the Euphrates came as a result of the de facto policies pursued by the SDF outside the framework of the state, noting that Damascus' priority is to extend the rule of law, protect civilians and end any illegal weapons.

The sources pointed to the failure of the March 10 agreement due to a lack of seriousness and an attempt to impose a separatist reality, indicating that the new agreement concluded on Jan. 18 came after exhausting political paths and the state's intervention to impose stability.

The same sources also noted that the motive for the agreement was the escalation of security risks and the failure of the illegitimate administration, reiterating that Damascus' entry into the Jazira region was out of concern for the unity of the country and to prevent bloodshed.

The sources also highlighted that the agreement stipulates the handover of all heavy and medium weapons to the Syrian state, as it is the only entity authorised to monopolize weapons.

On Wednesday, the Syrian Ministry of Defence announced that seven soldiers were killed and 20 others were wounded in a bombing carried out by the SDF organisation on a factory for manufacturing improvised explosive devices in the northeast of the country.
