League Resumes After Long Break
This week, Wihdat kicked off action winning their postponed match against Baqa'a 4-2. On the weekend, it's Hussein vs Jazira, Salt vs Faisali, Ramtha vs Shahab Urdun, Baqa'a vs Ahli and Wihdat vs Sama Sarhan.
Faisali top the CFI Jordan Pro League while Ramtha trail one point apart with Hussein third and Wihdat fourth.
The 73rd edition of the Pro League has 10 team playing in three stages instead of the usual two. Baqa'a and Sarhan are the newcomers from the First Division after Ma'an, Sarih, Aqaba, and Mughayer Sarhan were relegated last season.
Hussein kicked off 2025/26 season winning the 42nd Jordan Super Cup after overcoming Wihdat on aggregate. In other competitions, the Jordan Cup and Jordan Football Association (JFA) Shield matches continued without national team players, with Faisali winning their 10th Shield title with Salt runner-up followed by Wihdat, Ahli and Baqa'a in top 5 positions. Wihdat and Faisali have now won the title 10 times, Ramtha 5, Hussein 3, Jazira, Shabab Urdun, Amman twice, while Jalil, Kufrsoum, Yarmouk and Salt have won once each.
Many young stars who joined the FIFA Arab Cup where Jordan finished runner-up to champions Morocco had an impressive performance as did the U23 squad who exited the quarterfinals of the Asian Cup after losing the penalty shootout to Japan. Among those were Ali Azaizeh, Odeh Fakhouri, Ali Hajbi among others.
Fakhouri was reported to be moving from Hussein to Egyptian powerhouse Ahli SC, a major achievement for a player who is just 20. He will be the first Jordanian to play for Ahli, a dominant force in Egyptian football, founded in 1907 and the most successful club in Africa.
Last season, Hussein won the Pro League as well as Jordan Super Cup, while Wihdat won the Jordan Cup for the 13th time, and Salt took home their first ever major title when they captured the Jordan Football Association Shield.
Hussein joined the elite group of Pro League champs becoming the 9th team to win the title since 1944. They are League champions in the past two seasons, and together with neighbors Ramtha, they have changed the usual Faisali-Wihdat title dominance. Ramtha won the 2021/22 League crown for the third time in their history after 39 years, while Hussein won the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons.
