Brazil And Tunisia In The Oscar Race


(MENAFN- Brazil-Arab News Agency (ANBA)) São Paulo – Productions from Brazil and Tunisia are among the nominees for Best International Feature Film at this year's Oscars. Brazil is represented by“The Secret Agent,” a feature film by Kleber Mendonça Filho, which is also competing for awards in the categories of Best Picture, Best Actor with Wagner Moura, and Casting Direction, making its debut at this year's ceremony. The awards will be held on March 15 in Los Angeles, United States.

Written and directed by Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania,“The Voice of Hind Rajab” is set in Gaza and portrays the story of a six-year-old girl who died while trying to flee Israeli attacks on the Palestinian territory with her family.“The Secret Agent” tells the story of Marcelo, a teacher who leaves São Paulo for Recife to escape his past and reunite with his son.

Brazilian film already won a Golden Globe

“The Secret Agent” won two Golden Globes in January: Best Actor in a Drama Film, for Wagner Moura, and Best Non-English-Language Film. Competing alongside the Brazilian and Tunisian productions are“It Was Just an Accident” (France),“Sentimental Value” (Norway), and“Sirât” (Spain). Brazil is also represented at the Oscars by Adolpho Veloso, nominated for Best Cinematography for the film“Train Dreams.”
