Khartoum – Sudanow
Sudanow Magazine mourns, with profound sorrow and deep sadness, its former Editor-in-Chief and legal and banking consultant, the late Mr. Ahmed Kamal El-Din Izzeddin, who passed away in the Kingdom of Bahrain on Thursday, January 8, 2026.
The late Mr. Ahmed Kamal El-Din Izzeddin was a pioneer of English-language journalism in Sudan and a prominent contributor to journalistic translation and structured professional media practice. He served as Editor-in-Chief of several newspapers in Sudan and worked with Sudan newspaper in the United Kingdom. He was widely known for his strict commitment to accuracy and credibility, and for his deep belief in journalistic ethics and the continuous advancement of professional standards.
He was the first Chairman of the Journalists' Registration Committee at the Press Council and an active member of the Council. He also served as Secretary for External Relations at the Sudanese Journalists' General Union and played a significant role in revitalizing and strengthening the Arab Journalists Union.
Mr. El-Din showed early interest in journalistic technology and was among the first to introduce laptop computers into newsroom practices for layout design, journalistic production, translation, and information management, at a time when such tools were not widely used in Sudanese newsrooms.
On the academic and professional front, Mr. Ahmed Kamal El-Din Izzeddin obtained an LLB (Honours) in 1979, an MA in Political Economy (Development) from the University of Leeds, and an LLM (with Honours) in International Finance and Banking Law from the University of Liverpool. He also worked as a part-time lecturer in the University of Wales–accredited programme at the Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance from 2008 to 2011.
He served as a government legal advisor in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia before working in the United Kingdom throughout the 1980s. He became Editor-in-Chief of Sudanow magazine in 1990, founded Ahmed Kamal El-Din Law Office in 1997, and from 2003 worked as a legal consultant and expert with the Government of the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Mr. El-Din passed away suddenly, carrying deep sorrow for the condition of his nation and homeland, and for El-Fasher, his birthplace, to which he remained deeply attached until his final days.
May Allah grant him His boundless mercy, admit him into His eternal gardens, and bestow patience and comfort upon his family, loved ones, students, and colleagues.
Indeed, to Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return.
