WHO Calls For Protection Of Ukraine's Healthcare Facilities Amid Russian Attacks

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) According to Ukrinform, he stated this on the social media platform X.

Ghebreyesus said that since the beginning of this year, nine attacks on healthcare facilities have been recorded in Ukraine, resulting in the deaths of one patient and one healthcare worker, and injuries to 11 people, including medical staff and patients. In addition, three ambulances were damaged as a result of the attacks, he added.

"The affected facilities serve more than 3 million people, and are already operating under severe strain – shortage in health workforce, medical supplies and fuel," he emphasized.

He stated that these attacks have made it more difficult to provide medical care during the winter period, as low temperatures and harsh weather conditions, including heavy snowfall, hinder repair and recovery efforts.

"I reiterate my call for the protection of health care facilities, patients and health workers and for all health facilities to be safeguarded to provide uninterrupted medical services. Health is not a target," Ghebreyesus wrote.

As Ukrinform previously reported, on the night of January 9, the Russian army attacked Kyiv from multiple directions with drones and missiles, including ballistic missiles.

In Kyiv's Darnytskyi district, where a UAV struck a residential building, there was a second impact; a medic was killed and medical workers were injured.

On Friday, January 9, Russian forces shelled a hospital in Kherson, wounding two healthcare workers.
