Jordan, Arab And Islamic States Condemn Illegal Israeli Visit To Somaliland
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
Amman, Jan. 8 (Petra)-- The foreign ministers of Jordan, Egypt, Algeria, Bangladesh, the Comoros, Djibouti, Gambia, Indonesia, Iran, Kuwait, Libya, the Maldives, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Türkiye, Yemen, along with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), have strongly condemned what they described as an illegal visit by an Israeli official to the Somaliland region on January 6, 2026.
In a joint statement issued on Thursday, the ministers recalled their earlier statement dated December 27, 2025, which rejected Israel's recognition of the Somaliland region as part of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
They reiterated their firm condemnation of the recent visit, describing it as a clear violation of Somalia's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
The ministers stressed that the visit undermines established principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, reaffirming their unwavering support for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
They further emphasized that encouraging separatist agendas is unacceptable and poses serious risks that could exacerbate tensions in an already fragile region. Respect for international law, non-interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states, and adherence to diplomatic norms, they said, are essential foundations for regional and international stability.
The statement also praised Somalia's commitment to peaceful international engagement, constructive diplomacy, and compliance with international law.
The ministers expressed their continued commitment to supporting the diplomatic and legal measures undertaken by the Federal Republic of Somalia to safeguard its sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and stability in accordance with international law.
In this context, they called on Israel to fully respect Somalia's sovereignty, national unity, and territorial integrity, to honor its obligations under international law, and to immediately withdraw its recognition of the Somaliland region.
