First U.S. Corn Shipment Since 2018 Arrives At Chittagong Port
Dhaka: Bangladesh has received its first shipment of U.S. corn in eight years, with a bulk consignment arriving at Chittagong Port on Wednesday, according to a press release from the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka on 7 January.
The shipment comprises 57,855 metric tons of yellow corn harvested in North and South Dakota and Minnesota during the 2025–26 crop year. It was shipped from Vancouver, Washington, and is expected to support Bangladesh's growing demand for animal feed ingredients.
U.S. Embassy Dhaka Agricultural Attaché Erin Covert visited Chittagong Port to welcome the vessel's arrival. She was joined by representatives from a consortium of Bangladeshi buyers, including Nahar Agro Group, Paragon Group, and Nourish Poultry and Hatchery Limited, three major players in the country's feed milling industry.
This consignment is the first opportunity since 2018 for Bangladeshi feed millers to access U.S. corn as a source of animal nutrition, the embassy noted.
An official from United Grain Corporation (UGC), one of the leading U.S. grain exporters involved in the shipment, said they were“honored to be a part of the first shipment of United States corn to Bangladesh in eight years” and expressed hope of continuing grain supplies to the country in the future.
