Erdogan Addresses Türkiye’s Support for Venezuela
(MENAFN) On Monday, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that he had conveyed Ankara’s concerns during a phone call with US President Donald Trump, urging that Venezuela should not be left vulnerable to instability.
Erdogan emphasized that Ankara will continue to support the "friendly people of Venezuela in their struggle for prosperity, peace, and development," speaking after a Cabinet meeting in the capital.
He cautioned that disregarding international law and undermining national sovereignty are dangerous moves that could lead to "serious global complications." Türkiye, he stressed, never endorses actions that violate international law and remains committed to doing what is best for both the Turkish and the "brotherly Venezuelan nation."
Highlighting Türkiye’s role, Erdogan noted that the country is at the "forefront" of nations defending justice, legitimacy, and international law.
He added that Venezuelans and their President Nicolas Maduro have "repeatedly" demonstrated friendship toward Türkiye, with both nations prioritizing solidarity during challenging times.
The remarks came after US military operations in Venezuela over the weekend resulted in the capture of Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. Both face drug trafficking charges and entered not guilty pleas in a New York courtroom on Monday.
Erdogan reiterated that Ankara has consistently taken "a clear stance" against injustice, illegality, and oppression.
He concluded by asserting that Türkiye is undergoing a "leap that the world follows with close attention, appreciation, and often admiration," insisting that "no one can stand in its way."
