In the early hours of Sunday, a tragic incident occurred in Khairabad area of Shabqadar tehsil, Charsadda district, turning wedding celebrations into mourning. A poor family had not yet finished celebrating the wedding when a sudden roof collapse buried six lives under the rubble.

A wedding procession had arrived at the house on Saturday night. Several family members were sleeping in the groom's room, which was relatively spacious, as the other rooms in the house were small. Preparations for the wedding reception (walima) were to begin on Sunday morning, but before dawn, the room that had been the center of happiness turned into a chamber of death.

The incident claimed the lives of six people, including a woman and her three innocent children, while five others were injured and shifted to a nearby hospital. Some of the injured are reported to be in critical condition. At the scene, newly purchased clothes, wedding items, and scattered household belongings buried under the debris bore silent witness to the tragedy.

Local residents and rescue teams immediately launched relief operations, but several lives could not be saved. According to reports, some of the deceased belonged to the Tirah area of Khyber district, while one was a resident of Peshawar.

The tragedy deeply saddened people as the affected family was already facing severe hardships. The groom's father, who worked as a mason, had died a few months earlier after falling from a construction site. Following his death, the family's financial condition had deteriorated further, and this devastating incident added to their misery.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Member of the Provincial Assembly Arif Ahmad Zai and Additional Assistant Commissioner Zulfiqar Khan reached the site, expressed condolences to the bereaved families, and assured them of all possible assistance. The district administration announced compensation of Rs. 1 million per deceased for the families of the victims, and also provided immediate relief including tents, blankets, kitchen sets, hygiene kits, and other essential items.

Meanwhile, local residents have also come forward to support the grieving family. Community members have started collecting donations and are making efforts to arrange proper housing for the affected family.
