Russia announces capture of village in northeastern Ukraine

(MENAFN) Russia announced on Sunday that its military has taken control of a village in the Kharkiv region of northeastern Ukraine.

According to a statement from the Russian Defense Ministry, its forces captured the village of Podoly, located approximately five kilometers east of the frontline town of Kupiansk.

Earlier in the day, Ukraine’s General Staff reported that Russian troops had launched 14 attacks on Ukrainian positions near eight settlements in the Kupiansk area. The named locations included Kucherivka, Kurylivka, and Petropavlivka, all close to Podoly, though the village itself was not specifically mentioned in the update.

Ukrainian officials have not responded to Russia’s announcement, and independent confirmation is challenging due to the ongoing conflict, which is approaching its fifth year.
