UK, France strike suspected IS arms depot in Syria
(MENAFN) British and French air forces carried out a coordinated air operation on Saturday evening targeting a suspected underground weapons depot in Syria, formerly linked to the Islamic State (IS), according to the British Defense Ministry.
Royal Air Force (RAF) reconnaissance identified the subterranean site in the mountains north of Palmyra, which was believed to store explosives and arms.
RAF aircraft employed Paveway IV precision-guided bombs to strike several access tunnels leading to the facility, with early reports indicating that the mission achieved its objectives.
The ministry confirmed that the area surrounding the depot is uninhabited and that the strike posed no threat to civilian populations.
