Driving A Noisy Vehicle? Abu Dhabi Police Warn Of Dh2,000 Fine, 12 Traffic Points

Abu Dhabi Police have issued a warning to motorists against using excessively noisy vehicles, particularly in residential neighbourhoods, stressing that such behaviour disrupts public peace and poses safety risks.

In a statement, the authority said that loud engine noises, reckless driving, and vehicle modifications - often seen among some young drivers - are causing distress in residential areas and sandy zones close to homes. Authorities noted that the noise can trigger panic, tension and anxiety among residents and road users, especially children, the elderly and those who are sick.

“Enjoying the winter season should not come at the expense of disturbing your community,” Abu Dhabi Police said, urging drivers to act responsibly and respect public peace.

Motorcycle users were also reminded to follow safety and security regulations, avoid creating noise in sandy areas and family camps, and refrain from operating modified vehicles on public roads without proper authorisation.

Abu Dhabi Police noted they will take firm legal action against violators. Driving a vehicle that causes excessive noise carries a fine of Dh2,000 and 12 traffic points under Article 20 of the Traffic and Circulation Law. Making unauthorised modifications to a vehicle's engine or chassis can result in a Dh1,000 fine, 12 traffic points, and vehicle impoundment of up to 30 days.

Under Law No. 5 of 2020, vehicles impounded for illegal modifications can only be released after paying a Dh10,000 fee. If the amount is not settled within three months, the vehicle may be referred for sale at a public auction.

Abu Dhabi Police urged the public to report noisy or disruptive vehicles by calling 999, adding that there will be zero tolerance for drivers who deliberately disturb residents or compromise road safety.

You can email or call if you wish to go to the impound location to have have your request processed there, make sure you've reached out to the authorities first to ensure clear understanding of the matter.
