(MENAFN) Russian investigators reported on Sunday that the death toll from a drone attack on New Year’s Day in the Kherson region has risen to 29, including two children, with at least 60 others injured.

Svetlana Petrenko, spokesperson for Russia’s Investigative Committee, said that 15 of the injured remain hospitalized, with three in critical condition. The assault struck a cafe and hotel complex in the village of Khorly, with Ukrainian forces reportedly deploying unmanned aerial vehicles in the overnight attack on Jan. 1.

Forensic teams are conducting genetic analyses to identify the victims, and 12 of the deceased have already been confirmed. Fragments of multiple drones were recovered at the site, and investigators are working to establish the type, origin, and explosive capacity of the munitions used.
