US Venezuela Strike Forces Cancellation of Over 215 Caribbean Flights
(MENAFN) Major US carriers scrambled to cancel hundreds of Caribbean-bound flights Saturday following the Trump administration's military operation against Venezuela that officials described as a "large scale strike."
JetBlue axed approximately 215 flights as airspace shutdowns rippled across the Caribbean region due to what the carrier attributed to "military activity." Delta Airlines initiated mass cancellations in the early morning hours after federal aviation authorities imposed emergency restrictions.
"American Airlines is aware of the FAA-mandated airspace closures in the Eastern Caribbean that were issued overnight and is closely monitoring the situation with the agency," American Airlines stated.
The Federal Aviation Administration issued urgent directives ordering commercial carriers to avoid Caribbean airspace, warning of a "potentially hazardous situation." The unprecedented closure came as US military forces executed operations in Venezuelan territory.
Delta Airlines confirmed it began processing flight cancellations Saturday morning to comply with FAA restrictions covering the Caribbean zone.
"As cancellations are processed, customers will receive notifications via the Fly Delta app and contact information listed in their reservation," the airline announced.
US President Donald Trump revealed early Saturday that Washington executed a "large scale strike" against Venezuela, claiming that President Nicolas Maduro and his wife were "captured and flown out" of the country.
Trump stated Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were transported to a ship following their detention by US forces and were en route to New York.
US Attorney General Pam Bondi disclosed that Maduro and his wife have been indicted in the Southern District of New York on multiple criminal charges, including "narco-terrorism."
