France to Halt Importation of Certain Contaminated Fruit Imports

(MENAFN) France will immediately halt imports of fruits containing residues from pesticides prohibited across the European Union, French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu announced Sunday.

In a statement posted on US social media platform X, Lecornu declared: "A decree will be issued in the coming days, at the initiative of the Minister of Agriculture Annie Genevard to suspend the importation of products containing residues of substances banned in Europe: mancozeb, glufosinate, thiophanate-methyl, and carbendazim."

The sweeping restrictions will target "avocados, mangoes, guavas, citrus fruits, grapes, and apples from South America and elsewhere," Lecornu stated, emphasizing these products "will no longer be allowed to enter the country."

Lecornu confirmed that "stricter controls will be carried out by a specialized team to ensure compliance with our health standards."

The Prime Minister characterized the policy as "a first step" designed to safeguard domestic agricultural industries and protect consumers while addressing "unfair competition." He framed the decision as "a true issue of justice and fairness for our farmers."

The ban marks an aggressive enforcement action targeting international produce suppliers whose products contain chemical residues outlawed within EU borders, potentially disrupting global fruit trade flows into France.
