Radio Frequency Failure Cripples Greece Air Traffic

(MENAFN) A critical radio frequency malfunction has crippled air traffic operations across Greece, forcing authorities to impose sweeping restrictions at airports nationwide Sunday morning.

The country's civil aviation authority issued a statement confirming that multiple frequencies serving the Athens FIR (Flight Information Region) experienced severe disruptions, triggering emergency traffic limitations at both international and regional airports throughout the nation.

A Public broadcaster verified the technical crisis has impacted every flight arriving to and departing from Greek territory. The broadcaster reported that restoration efforts are currently in progress.

A newspaper disclosed that initial assessments suggest a circuit failure may be responsible for the breakdown.

However, authorities have yet to pinpoint the exact cause or source of the malfunction, the paper noted, while emphasizing that officials cannot provide a timeline for when standard operations will resume.

The disruption marks a significant aviation incident affecting one of Europe's busiest flight corridors during peak travel season.
